Feel Good Friday: 50 ways to be ridiculously generous.

A weekly newsletter sharing instances of hope, humor, and humanity.

Hello readers! Welcome back to the FGF newsletter. Here are a few of the cheering or compelling things I’ve come across this week.

As always, if you have anything you’d like to share – articles, podcasts, books, interesting finds – email me at cambria [at] simplyrecipes [dot] com with the title “Feel Good Friday.” Thanks for being a part of our community!

What I Liked This Week:

  • Barack Obama’s eulogy for John Lewis: “He treated everyone with kindness and respect because it was innate to him, this idea that any of us can do what he did—if we're willing to persevere. He believed that in all of us there exists the capacity for great courage. That in all of us, there's a longing to do what's right. That in all of us there's a willingness to love all people, and extend to them their God-given rights. So many of us lose that sense. It's taught out of us. We start feeling as if, in fact, we can't afford to extend kindness or decency to other people. That we're better off if we're above other people and looking down on them, and so often that's encouraged in our culture. But John always said he always saw the best in us, and he never gave up and never stopped speaking out because he saw the best in us. He believed in us even when we didn't believe in ourselves.”
  • How Cooking Culture Excludes People with Disabilities. Thanks to this article, I learned about Accessible Chef, a collection of free visual recipes to help teach cooking to people with disabilities!
  • When Did Recipe Writing Get So…Whitewashed? And to supplement that: When It Comes to a Recipe, What’s in a Name?
  • Zoom fatigue is real. Here are tips that can help.
  • What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Share it here, then follow the Instagram and read what others had to say!
  • This hedgehog. I mean, come on! Cuteness overload, and man, do we need that sometimes.
  • I admit, I like to keep the camera on my laptop covered because of privacy concerns, and these are a definite upgrade from blue painter’s tape!
  • 50 ways to be ridiculously generous, and feel ridiculously good. So many lovely ideas here.
  • Love kale? There’s a temporary tattoo for that!
  • A few years ago I bought this stainless steel divided plate for my oldest daughter when she was a toddler, and now my younger daughter uses it. It’s practically indestructible and so great for smorgasbord lunches (aka whatever bits and bobs you can find in the fridge!). Highly recommend.
  • “Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself.” ― William Martin from this book, which is definitely on my must-read list now.

Here’s hoping your weekend is like this.
