Chocolate is such a flexible ingredient that it can be used in various desserts, and sometimes even for other meal courses. Many households enjoy having a staple dessert to eat in the house, this is very true most especially for homes with kids. But of course, as a busy parent, it is quite difficult to be able to allot an ample amount of time, when you are at home, just to make desserts.

Balancing work with rest and playtime with your kids is difficult as it is, adding something else to the schedule makes it quite hectic. However, the dessert we will be introducing to you today is a dessert that doesn’t actually need a lot of time to make.

You can even use it as a way for you and your kids to bond given that there are various ways to make it which they can help you with.

Icebox Cake Origin:

Icebox cakes is a dessert that originated from the US around the time of the first World War. This dessert is like a combination of two classic American desserts which is the trifle and a charlotte. A

lot of homes in the US immediately accepted and continuously made this in their homes because of its very simple recipe, thanks to the shortcuts and premade ingredients. It requires minimal effort and time to make but the taste is phenomenal.

The sweetness plus the combinations of smooth and crunchy texture gives it that playful and fun experiencing whenever we eat it.

How to Prepare Hershey’s Icebox Cake?

The icebox cake we plan to make is not just some ordinary icebox cake. We will be using a special ingredient that in itself has such a flavorful taste that wraps the whole dessert, making it a perfect dessert overall.

Hershey’s Chocolate can be seen in every store in the Philippines. It is the chocolate brand that many Filipinos associate with when we look for a tasty chocolate. Using Hershey’s Chocolate as the main ingredient for flavor for this dessert will result to an even easier recipe of making an icebox cake.

Additionally, we will be introducing not just one, but four-ways to make this dessert. So you can choose which way will best fit your kids abilities and your time.

Hershey’s Icebox Cake in a Can 4-Ways Ingredients and Procedure:

Hersheys Icebox Cake Recipe 4-Ways

Hershey’s Icebox Cake in a Can 4-Ways

Hershey’s Icebox Cake in a Can 4-Ways is a lush-style dessert with lots of Hershey’s chocolates and with layers of whip cream, chocolate cake, oreos, macadamia nuts and a lot more.

Chocolate Cake: (Divide batter in 4 (6×1) round pans)

  • 1 box (400g Chocolate Cake Mix)
  • 1 cup water or milk
  • ½ cup oil or melted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 2g sachet Nescafe Instant Coffee (optional)

Whipped Cream:

  • 1 box (200g Frosty Whip Cream Powder)
  • ¾ cup cold water
  • 1 box (250ml Nestle All-purpose Cream, chilled)

Icebox Cake Flavors:

Oreo Cookies n Cream

  • 1 chocolate cake (cut in half)
  • 1 part whipped cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pack Mini Oreo (crushed)
  • 1 tbsp. dark chocolate (finely chopped)

Dark Chocolate & Macadamia

  • 1 chocolate cake (cut in half)
  • 1 part whipped cream
  • 2 tbsp. chocolate syrup
  • 1 bar (40g Hershey’s Dark Chocolate)
  • 1 tbsp. Macadamia Nuts (roughly chopped)

Choco Strawberry Fudge

  • 1 chocolate cake (cut in half)
  • 1 part whipped cream
  • 2 tbsp. strawberry syrup
  • 3 tbsp. brownie fudge (diced)
  • 1 tbsp. choco chips

Kisses with Almonds & Salted Caramel

  • 1 chocolate cake (cut in half)
  • 1 part whipped cream
  • 2 tbsp. caramel syrup
  • 1 pack (36g kisses)
  • 1 tbsp. almonds (roughly chopped)

You Also Need:

  • 4 pcs. 6×2 Tin Cans
  1. Preheat Stove-Top heavy-bottom Casserole or any similar cooking ware over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  2. If using a heavy bottom casserole, put just enough salt to cover the entire bottom it helps stabilize the heat evenly.
  3. Place fitted wire rack in the center and cover with a lid.
  4. The lid hole should be sealed with a foil so the heat can’t escape.
  5. Line 4 (6-inch) round pans with parchment paper.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and prepare chocolate cake batter according to package direction.
  7. Divide the batter into 4 pans and spread evenly. (If you have a chocolate cake recipe, that would be a perfect cake base for your icebox.
  8. And by the way bake your cake in a pan with the same size of your tin can, so you won’t have to trim & waste a thing.
  9. Cook/Bake/Steam the cake for about 8-10 minutes.
  10. Keep an eye on your cake because’ we may have different kinds of stove and the heat varies.
  11. To check, insert wooden stick in the center and if comes out clean or a few moist crumbs, it’s done.
  12. Repeat process for the other batch.
  13. Fire off and let it cool completely on a wire rack, before assembling.
  14. Let’s Prepare our trusted Frosty Whipped Cream: I’m using 1 box (200g) of Frosty Whip Cream Powder that would be 1½ cups FWCP and to that we are going to add ¾ cup of super cold water.
  15. Moistened the cream powder first before whipping.
  16. When it’s fully whipped and aerated, you can add 1 box (250ml) Nestle All-Purpose Cream and vanilla extract if you want (optional) and whip until well combined.
  17. Divide Whipped Cream into 4 parts.
  18. Now, that we are done preparing our Cake and Whipped Cream Base, let the mouth-watering creation begins…

To Prepare Oreo Cookies n Cream:

  1. Cut the cake in half horizontally and set aside. Crushed Mini-Oreo’s and divide into 2 parts.
  2. The fine crumbs will be folded into your whip cream and larger crumbs will be your toppings.
  3. In a bowl of whipped cream, add vanilla extract (optional) and crushed Oreo’s and mix.
  4. Let’s assemble our 1st icebox cake.
  5. In a can place half of your chocolate cake and flatten. Spread ½ part of whipped cream evenly, sprinkle Oreo crumbs and finely chopped dark chocolate on top.
  6. Cover with chocolate cake and flatten, then repeat process until done.
  7. Chill icebox cake before serving.

To Prepare Dark Chocolate & Macadamia:

  1. Cut the cake in half horizontally and set aside.
  2. Cut chocolate into small chunks and roughly chopped the macadamia nuts and set aside.
  3. In a bowl of whipped cream, add 2 tbsp. Chocolate syrup and mix.
  4. Let’s assemble our 2nd icebox cake.
  5. In a can place half of your chocolate cake and flatten.
  6. Spread ½ part of chocolate whipped cream evenly, sprinkle with chocolate chunks and chopped macadamia nuts on top.
  7. Drizzle with chocolate syrup as desired.
  8. Cover with chocolate cake and flatten, then repeat process until done.
  9. Chill icebox cake before serving.

To Prepare Choco Strawberry Fudge.

  1. Cut the cake in half horizontally and set aside.
  2. Cut brownie fudge in small chunks and set aside.
  3. In a bowl of whipped cream, add 2 tbsp. of strawberry syrup and mix.
  4. Let’s assemble our 3rd icebox cake.
  5. In a can place half of your chocolate cake and flatten.
  6. Spread ½ part of strawberry whipped cream evenly, sprinkle with fudge and choco chips on top.
  7. Drizzle with strawberry syrup as desired.
  8. Cover with chocolate cake and flatten, then repeat process until done.
  9. Chill icebox cake before serving.

To Prepare Kisses with Almonds & Salted Caramel.

  1. Cut the cake in half horizontally and set aside.
  2. Roughly chopped almonds and cut kisses in halves and set aside.
  3. In a bowl of whipped cream, add 2 tbsp. of caramel syrup and mix.
  4. Let’s assemble our 4th and last icebox cake.
  5. In a can place half of your chocolate cake and flatten.
  6. Spread ½ part of whipped cream evenly, add caramel syrup and swirl it with a toothpick, then sprinkle with almonds and kisses on top.
  7. Cover with chocolate cake and flatten, then repeat process until done.
  8. Chill icebox cake before serving.

Note: To keep your icebox cake, stay longer, refrigerate immediately after use, this will last for up to 2 weeks.
