New Recipes! Thanksgiving Bread Stuffing, Banana Cream Pie, Apple Cider Braised Chicken Thighs, and MORE!

Latest recipes from Simply Recipes.

Hello, lovelies!

This week, I thought I'd share a little bit about how the recipes we share on Simply Recipes come to be. Let me tell you, they go through quite a journey before they land on our homepage!

Every recipe starts as an idea. Sometimes it's a dish that our grandma made, or something we had on vacation earlier this year, or something we happen to be craving, or even a recipe that one of you requested from us. Whatever the case, there's always a nugget that starts the ball rolling.

We work with a team of about 10 regular contributors, whose names you see next to all of our recipes. Sometimes they send us their nugget-ideas and sometimes we send ours to them. Either way, the next step is to take that idea and turn it into a real recipe.

Everyone has their own particular process for developing a good recipe, but it generally starts with a lot of research and then coming up with a first draft. From there, it's kitchen time! Our contributors tinker with proportions, think about ways to simplify steps, and test out different techniques. When asked how many times the recipe is made before it's perfected, our answer is, "As many as it takes!" Generally, though, it takes our contributors between three and eight tries before they're satisfied with the result. All these recipes are developed in their home kitchens with the home cook in mind.

Now it's time for an editor's eye. That's where Summer, Cambria, and I come in. We read every recipe and pore over the details, questioning the contributor about why they chose this ingredient, or if they could clarify that step to make it easier to follow. We go back and forth with the contributor until the recipe is airtight.

Once everyone is satisfied, then we send the recipe to our team of recipe testers. This team is a mix of regular home cooks and professionals, and they try out our recipes in their own kitchens. This testing step adds a final layer of insurance to our process.

Last but not least, we load that recipe up onto the site, give it one final review, and hit publish. Whew! This whole process from start to finish takes about three months, if you can believe it.

As you can see, our recipes have to jump through a lot of hoops before they are ready for primetime! But our hope is that by the time one of them arrives in YOUR kitchen, it's as close to perfect as we can get it.

So there you have it! Now who's hungry?!

XO,
Emma
