NEW RECIPES! Crab Cakes, Best Mulled Wine, Creamy Chicken Soup and MORE!

Latest recipes from Simply Recipes.

Hello, friends! I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and are currently enjoying a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce while reading this. (Because, really, aren't turkey sandwiches just the best?)

I'm guessing many of you have some holiday parties coming up, so I thought I'd share some of my best hosting tips, hard-earned from years frazzled, stressed-out hosting:

1. Have an easy appetizer ready for when hungry guests arrive. I love picking up a few cheeses, dried fruit, some cured meats, and spiced nuts, and setting them out on a few trays throughout the room. So easy.

2. Put someone else in charge greeting guests and pouring drinks. It can be your bff who shows up 5 minutes early, your partner, or even an older (responsible) child. Don't try to divide your time between finishing in the kitchen and saying hi to people as they arrive.

3. If people wind up in the kitchen (as they always do), put them to work. People who ask to help generally actually WANT to help, so let them! I used to feel like a bad hostess if I didn't do it all myself, but now I actually set aside a few tasks like chopping herbs or filling stuffed mushrooms just for guests to do. Plus it's fun to cook together!

4. Set the mood. It's relaxing for you and relaxing for guests. Pick a holiday playlist or put on some jazz (always a good choice) to set the mood as the room fills up. Cheap supermarket flower bouquets can be split up between vases and spaced around the room. I also like to light a few unscented votive candles and dim the lights to create some atmosphere.

5. Last but not least, if things go awry, c'est la vie. Your guests are there to hang out and enjoy each others company. If a dish gets burnt or you run out of dip, it's ok. Your friends will remember the delightful evening more than blips in your menu plan.

Cheers to the season! Happy holidays!

Spiced Mulled Wine

by Nancy Mitchell

Mulled wine is a must-have drink for the holidays – spicy, warm, perfect for parties, and super easy to make, especially if you use a slow cooker! This one is simmered with ginger and brandy for a little extra oomph.

Creamy Chicken Soup

by Summer Miller

This easy Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup skips the roux, cuts the cream, and gets a healthy protein and vitamin boost with the help of puréed cannellini beans. All of the flavor and creaminess, with none of the guilt!

Leftover Turkey Pot Pies

by Nick Evans

Leftover Turkey Pot Pies are a great way to use Thanksgiving leftovers like turkey, carrots, onions, celery, even pie crust. Make them whatever size you want; we like small ramekins for mini-size portions for the kids!
