Prawns in Spicy Garlic Butter Sauce

Lukon or prawns are among the most-prized yet affordable seafood. It maybe a bit more expensive than the usual seafood we have yet we can spare an amount just to satisfy our cravings at certain times.

Most often it ends up asimple halabos recipe so that every flavor of the seafood is enjoyed on its own. But we tend to make it more special by giving this seafood more exciting and "kicking" taste - Spicy Garlic Butter.

Here's a simple recipe in making Spicy Garlic Buttered Prawns

Ingredients
  • 3/4 kilo medium prawns, washed and cleaned
  • Stick of butter, standard 4 oz. or around 113grams
  • 1 pc medium-sized white onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 whole head of garlic, crushed
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • Chili powder
  • Salt
  • 1 can lemon soda
  • Juice from 5 medium size calamansi
  • Chives as garnish

How to cook Spicy Garlic Buttered Prawns
  1. In a shallow pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add in the onions and sweat it out for two minutes.
  3. Add crushed garlic and cook also for a couple of minutes.
  4. Pour in the lemon soda then add the prawns.
  5. As the prawns turn to orange, add calamansi juice. Adjust the sourness with brown sugar. Simmer for a minute or two.

  6. Add chili powder and salt then mix.
  7. Remove the prawns and set aside (to prevent from overcooking)
  8. Let the sauce boil and reduce to about half or just until you get consistency you desire. I prefer it to be thick yet runny.
  9. Stir well. Remove from heat.
  10. Garnish with chopped chives for that extra kick.
