 Finding the perfect gift for a kid is never easy. I mean, the Internet just told me that my 10-year-old daughter would love a karaoke machine this year and a tie-dye party kit (fun for her, terrifying for me!). I'm stumped this holiday season, because my daughters already have my go-to gift: The Big, Fun Kids Cookbook from Food Network Magazine. We published the book a few months ago and I've been giving it to everyone I know: It's the perfect present this year, when all of us are spending more time in the kitchen—and when kids are looking for new things to do at home. Beginner cooks will find more than 150 recipes, plus all the tips they need to succeed in the kitchen! —Maile Carpenter | Editor in Chief  To get you in the mood for all the cool food projects you'll find in The Big, Fun Kids Cookbook, here are 10 easy holiday ideas from Food Network Magazine.  Blend Your Own Cookie Butter Grind 2 cups of chopped cookies in a food processor and, with the motor running, drizzle in ⅓ to ½ cup warmed canned coconut milk until the spread is smooth and thick. Gradually pulse in up to 2 teaspoons of sugar (depending on the sweetness of the cookie). Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.  Make Frosted Candy Canes Melt 1 cup white chocolate chips with 4 teaspoons of shortening in the microwave, dip candy canes in the mixture, let cool slightly on parchment paper, then roll in red and green nonpareils.  Upgrade Some Milk for Santa Combine 20 peppermint candies and 1 quart of milk in a pitcher and stir; refrigerate 1 hour, stirring once or twice, then strain. To decorate glasses, dip the rims in melted white or dark chocolate and then in crushed peppermints.  Whip Up Gingerbread Milkshakes Soak 1 cup of crushed gingerbread cookies in ¼ cup milk until soft; blend with 1 pint vanilla ice cream.  Put Gelt In Your Brownies Put Gelt In Your Brownies Make brownies and arrange unwrapped Hanukkah gelt on top of the batter 5 minutes before the end of the baking time.  Give Breakfast a Holiday Twist Replace the milk in your pancakes with eggnog.  Create Your Own Holiday Bark Spread melted white chocolate on parchment and top with blue candies and sprinkles for Hanukkah or red and green candies and sprinkles for Christmas.  Deck Out Your Doughnuts Dip the tops of plain cake doughnuts in thinned royal icing, then pipe dots of green royal icing on top in a circle. While the icing is still wet, drag a toothpick through the dots in one direction, then add a few jumbo red nonpareils.  Make Some Hot Cocoa Snow Make Some Hot Cocoa Snow Freeze hot chocolate in a baking dish, scraping every 30 minutes, until slushy. Top with whipped cream.  |
